Question

Can my lawyer charge me for something that was not agreed on? I paid 1500 for a court date on a final judgement that has not come

up. He now wants more money because

case is dragging on so I am signing him off

my case because I can no longer afford him.

And he said he wants off the case because

he doesn't get paid enough. So I agreed and asked for the money that I paid for the final judgement court date. He said he will not be refunding that and I still need to finish paying off the balance on the account....which the money I had paid would more than cover the balance now. Note: no written contracts only verbal

Answer

It surprises me that you don't have a written fee arrangement. In a non contingency basis if fees exceed $1000 ther has to be one by law. The attorney has to provide billing statements as well. It looks like you are in Ontario.the Western San Bernadino Bar Association or CalifornianState Bar can help with fee arbitration.

Answer

I agree with Mr.Green
