Question

My 90 year old mother wants to deposit a tax credit check from Dept of Finance into her checking account, but bank will not accept it because it has my deceased father's name on the check along with her name. My father passed away 10 years ago. What to do?

Answer

Two basic options:

1) get the check re-issued

2) open an estate and process the deceased person's portion through the estate/Personal Representative or if an estate was opened and closed years ago consider re-opening the estate

I hope that the above general legal information helps but it is not a substitute for legal advice and creates no attorney/client relationship.
