Why don't some retailers take out of state checks? Or checks with low numbers on them such as check number 100?

Question

Answer

It is more difficult to collect from someone who lives far from the retailer. Low check numbers indicate a new account. If you have higher check numbers, it arguably indicates you have had the account for a longer period of time, and it has not been closed due to fraud or bounced checks.
