Question

Can the parents agree on child support or do you have to go by the courts ruling? My ex wife agrees on $300 a month, but the court calculator says $450.

Answer

Parents are always free to make modifications or agreements. Child support deviations must be reasonable but are most often agreed to by the court. Make sure you have a court order (signed by the judge) for the new amount or you will be in contempt. I have seen these informal agreements end up with a person in jail when one side denies the agreement.
