If I sign a lease and my company is a corporation, and I want out of my lease, will the landlord go after me or the corporation?

Question

If I sign a lease and my company is a corporation, and I want out of my lease, will the landlord go after me or the corporation?

Answer

That depends on whether the lease is between the landlord and the company or you as an individual and whether or not you, in your individual capacity, guaranteed the lease. If the lease is strictly and expressly between the landlord and the corporate entity and the company observes appropiate corporate formalities, then the corporate shield should protect you as a shareholder from individual liability.
