Why cant you see the shadow of a flying airplane?
You can! If you look in the right place (and of course if the plane is close enough to the ground that it is not so diffuse as to be almost unnoticeable. The Sun appears almost 1/2 a degree wide, if the airplane appears close to ar less than that then a shadow will be very difficult to detect without proper equipment.
You cannot see because the distance between the ground and the plane is long
