Question

I recently moved to Illinois from New York. I received a jury notice from Erie County, New York on Dec. 21

I received the notice late because my it was forwarded to my new address in Illinois. I responded on Dec. 22 through registered mail. I received a letter today (Jan. 5) that was dated Dec. 27 stating that if I didn't respond in five days, I would be fined and/or arrested. I checked when they received the registered mail from me and they received it on Dec. 31. Jury duty is Monday and I am in Illinois. Can they issue a warrant for my arrest. I did everything in my power to let them know I no longer live in New York. I am stressing. I've tried calling them but it's the weekend and there is no response.

Answer

Do not worry. Call Jury Duty Clerk on Monday; reiterate your position and mention your registered letter plus emphasize the removal of your name from Jury Duty roster. You are covered.

Answer

You no longer live in NY and cannot sit there as a juror.
