Why does differential pressure make is so difficult to get the car door open before the car completely fills with water?

Why does differential pressure make is so difficult to get the car door open before the car completely fills with water?
Well, if you don't wait until the pressure equalizes inside and out, it would be like you parking your car up against a brick wall, it's kinda hard to open your door when there is a brick wall in the way too, isn't it!?
